What are Dental Implants?
If you have one or more missing teeth and need a restoration like a crown, bridge, or denture, a dental implant is often the first step to rebuilding your smile. Dental implants, typically made of titanium, act as tooth roots to securely anchor replacement teeth or other restorations. Without adequate support, fixtures such as crowns, bridges, or dentures may not be possible. Dr. Matthews at Mattydale Oral Surgery offers dental implants to help patients throughout Colorado Springs restore their oral health and achieve a natural-looking smile.

Are Dental Implants Right for Me?
You may be a great candidate for dental implants if you need to replace one or more teeth due to decay, damage, or injury. Dental implants can also restore a complete upper or lower arch of missing teeth. Ideal candidates should have sufficient gum and bone tissue to support the implants. If there isn't enough healthy gum or bone, implants may not be placed as successfully. At our oral surgery office, we use advanced techniques like bone grafts and ridge preservation to strengthen the jawbone. This allows our surgeons to prepare the jaw and gums for a successful dental implant placement.
How are Dental Implants Placed?
Mattydale Oral Surgery uses advanced technology, such as Cone Beam imaging, to capture detailed scans of your jaw. Cone Beam images, or Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), provide our surgeons with a comprehensive view of your oral health, including bone structure, nerves, and teeth. This diagnostic tool helps us determine the best treatment plan and identify the precise placement for dental implants. In some cases, a tooth extraction may be needed before implant placement. Depending on bone density and other factors, our surgeons may be able to place the implant immediately after extraction. Alternatively, a bone graft may be performed to prepare for future implant placement.
What to Expect After Dental Implant Surgery?
Before you are discharged, we will go over all post-operative instructions with you and the responsible adult who will be driving you home. These instructions will guide you on how to care for your mouth during the healing process. We will also provide you with a prescription or medicated mouthwash to use for a few days to support recovery. Mild swelling and discomfort are normal, and cold compresses along with over-the-counter pain medication can help relieve these symptoms.
Over the next few months, your dental implants will integrate with the surrounding tissue, building strong support for restorations like crowns, bridges, or dentures. Once healing is complete, you can contact your family dentist to create a custom restoration, helping you achieve a natural, radiant smile.

Are Dental Implants Covered by Insurance?
Implants may be covered by insurance since it is often considered a medically necessary procedure. Our Insurance Specialist Team will contact your provider to confirm and review your specific coverage. We will then estimate your costs and discuss all of your payment options. We want all of our patients to get the care they need, which is why we offer convenient payment plans and accept financing from CareCredit® and Lenders Club. Care Credit involves a simple application process that performs a soft credit pull with no effect to your credit score. Once submitted for prequalification, Care Credit allows several different financing companies to review your patient profile and to compete for assistance in your healthcare investment.
